Exercise For Life!:Reflection piece

For our Make A Difference project, my group mates and I wanted to encourage the youth of the CNMI to Exercise For Life. We wanted change their mindsets and remind them that exercise is VERY IMPORTANT and it has many BENEFITS. As a group, we tried to gather people to participate in our fun and easy activities which we had during SSHS Cultural Day. Personally, I found the activities fun and our participants said they enjoyed it as well. We may have not made a big impact in their lives, but at least we got them to take a step and start moving. If I am ever going to do this again, it would be with my family. I want to inform them of the benefits of exercise, get them moving, and it would be great family time. I will continue to spread my knowledge on the importance of exercise to anyone I care for or even give good advice to a friendly stranger.

Exercise for life!6

For our make a difference project, my partners and I had an event during our Cultural Day last week Wednesday. We had activities such as water balloon toss, basketball, and even tug of war, which was very enjoyable.  Although it was fun, not many people showed up. This was very disappointing. I now realize we didn’t take the time to inform students because of the last minute changes we made on when to have these activities. Sadly, I’ve noticed that we haven’t done our best promoting exercise as well as setting the  time, place, and equipment needed for the activities that we want participants to play. However, the activities we had on Cultural Day put us on track for our on time delivery. I note that we need to speed up the process for our events and make it more enjoyable with a larger crowd. My next action is to focus on our last sports/activities day by inviting more participants and thinking of creative ways for them to move their bodies.

Exercise For Life!5

So far we've accomplished creating updated flyers,  talking to informants about how to keep our bodies healthy, and we finally have set dates for our events. We were supposed to host an event today but Ms. Forti was not able to supervise, so we've tried to adjust to when she can make it. In this process we're having a tough time .. but we've learned that we may be able to have some kind of activities for students on cultural day. That way we have many people around to participate and Ms. Forti will be in school and able to supervise. We thought about having students who are sitting around to do small physical team building activities that hopefully they will enjoy. We still have not hosted any events so we are not on track for on time delivery. . We need to adjust our timeline to something doable with a schedule that will benefit everyone and the events outcome.

Exercise For Life!!4

So far we've accomplished posting the flyers and spreading the word on our event as well as getting ideas from our mentor on the activities will have for our participants. My peers and I are currently thinking of new ways to inform people that their diet is a big factor to their health and well being. We want convince them that exercise will keep their bodies in shape for a longer life. We've learned that we will be hosting the event after school so more people can come, but we must also think about if we have the equipment to support and entertain a large amount of people. As the month of April gets closer my group is working harder and faster than ever before. Although we are behind we are confident in our plan that we will present to our community . My next action is to continue planning the details of the days we will host the sport events, continue spreading the word for people to come, gather the supplies, and communicate more with each other to make our first event a success.

Exercise For Life!!3

So far we've accomplished creating the flyers and communicating more with our mentor getting information that will be useful for our Make A Difference project. While discussing the project with our mentor she mentioned specifically that exercise does not combat diabetes which defeats what we have written on our proposal. My peers and I are currently thinking of new ways to attract people and convince them that exercising is still important and it does have it's benefits. You'll definitely live longer if you exercise!! We are still a little behind for what we had planned, but as we get closer to the month of April we are preparing to present our project to the community.  My next action is to start planning the details of the days we will host the sport events, spreading the word for people to come, and gather the supplies we will use in the days of our project to make a difference.

Exercise For Life!!

This week we've accomplished emailing the Principal of KES and we are waiting for confirmation about using their field. Sadly, last week we emailed the vice principal of Hopwood Junior high school instead of the principal for Koblerville elementary school. We are currently trying to settle on a place to hold the events while considering what time and place would favor participants. We have also shared the proposal with our mentor and she commented that she is willing to give us information of the health benefits of exercise. She is also willing to help us come up with questions that we will be using for the surveys for the participants. Unfortunately, we are still not on track for on time delivery. We are far behind schedule and need to get on task. So my next action is to get information about benefits of exercise,  gather questions for the survey, and inform people of the dates and sports for the events..

Exercise For Life!

So far we've accomplished turning in our proposal, finding our mentors, and getting permission to use the school's sports equipment. Unfortunately, we cannot utilize our school's field due to the many holes in the ground. We are currently trying to get permission to use KES's huge field. We've learned that we must host the events after school because of the change of location. I noticed we've improved by communicating with each other more, however, we are not on track for on time delivery. We need to focus more on spreading the word on our events, figure out how many people are willing to go, schedule how the event will play out, and talk to our empathizers about what kinds of sports they would enjoy playing. My next action is to spread the word and make people aware of this great opportunity as well as be on track for on time delivery.
